Terezin concentration camp

The Military Fortress was built in the 18th century to guard against invasion from the north. It was used both in WW1 as a prison and was converted into a concentration camp during World War II. The main part of the town called “Big Fortress“ became a ghetto-concentration camp for Jews, which Hitler used as a propaganda town to show how kind he was to the Jews. The “Small Fortress“ was used as a Gestapo police prison and was more of a transit camp where people would be registered imprisoned and later either moved into town or sent to extermination camps in other parts of Europe.
